Hamamatsu Photonics K.K is a company specialized in the developing, manufacturing and marketing of the opto-semiconductors, photosensitive electron tubes, LED/LD light sources, cameras/image measurement, optical measurement, X-ray, etc. The company was established in 1953 and headquartered in Shizuoka, Japan. The company has formed branch offices in Germany, Netherlands, Danish, Poland, France, Switzerland, Belgium and Spain to establish a global distribution sales network. 

Hamamatsu Photonics K.K has developed a wide range of products. The opto-semiconductors cover photodiodes, photo IC, image sensors, infrared detectors, LED, X-ray flat panel sensors, optical communication devices and some related products. The photosensitive electron tubes include photomultiplier tubes (PMT), phototubes, electron multiplier tubes, flame sensors (UV TRON), MCP(Microchannel Plate), image intensifiers(I.I.), photon detection unit, UV power meter, UV power meter for photocatalyst and optical blocks. The LED/laser/light source mainly include LED, laser diodes, xenon flash lamps, spot light sources and so on. The cameras/ image measurement include industrial cameras, TDI cameras, high sensitivity models, etc. The products are widely used in life science, medical, optical communications, spectroscopy, multiband plasma-process monitor, FPD measurement and product support, semiconductor failure analysis and product support and so on.

Based on the development of chip technology, there are many types of CCD cameras. The noise of the CCD now determines the strength of the signal detection. The dark current and the readout noise are the two main factors that produce noise. In view of the innovation of CCD technology, various high-sensitivity and low-noise CCDs are achievable. However, the readout noise of the CCD is still the main factor limiting the detection of weak signals. The signal below the readout noise can be detected by signal integration of the CCD chip. After a period of signal accumulation, the signal becomes larger than the readout noise. In addition, there are other image enhancement techniques for signal amplification, such as microchannel plates (MCP) and direct electron bombardment electronbombardment. The direct CCD electron multiplication mechanism has been in use for many years, but the core issue surrounding this technology is the electron multiplication process on the chip, which is the main problem limiting EM CCD applications. With the latest chip electron multiplication technology, EMCCD is increasingly used in ultra-weak photo bio-imaging.
